New Delhi: Indian budding author, 17 year old Simar Malhotra created ripples in the literary circles of the capital city today with the launch of her debut novel ‘There Is a Tide’ at The Oberoi hotel.
The book that lays bare political intrigue and its impact on the lives of ordinary citizens was unveiled by iconic Indian lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Praising the book and whilst speaking at the launch, Javed Akhtar said, “It’s a big achievement at such a small age. Simar who’s a 17-year-old girl went much beyond her years and dared to pen down her first novel, ‘There is a Tide’. I encourage and insist her to continue with her writing habit, and wish her a promising an extraordinary writing career ahead.”
The ballroom of the Oberoi was filled with book enthusiasts and the literati glitterati of New Delhi. The panel of distinguished guests who graced the launch included author and poet Ashok Chakradhar, Chairman of the CBSE Vineet Joshi and eminent educationist, Director of the Step by Step Group of Schools Jaipur, Jayshree Periwal and Mr. Kapish Mehra (MD, Rupa Publications).
The author also shared her own set of experiences that she gathered in the course of compiling, ‘There is a Tide’ at the do.Simar, said, “I am happy to find my thoughts worthy enough to get printed. This book does have a strong connect of my own experiences from Yale and Harvard, and has a close relationship to my own life as well. I’m really grateful for all the valued support which has been extended to me by my educators at The Step by Step International School, Jaipur and professors at Yale”.
She further added that without their encouragement, and constant guidance of my parents ‘There is a Tide’ would have just remained a dream for me.
The panellists were full of praise for this young girl and her geo-political novel which has already created a stir in literary circles. She is an inspiration for the youth of today with her astonishing achievement, confidence and the gripping narrative flow of her ‘There is a Tide’.
